Christopher Corrente, of Lowell, is the recipient of the 缅北禁地 Alumni Association鈥檚 George Ellison Volunteer of the Year Award for 2018.

Presented by Alumni Association President Joseph Wamness during a ceremony on campus on June 10, the award recognizes an individual who the president of the association believes reflects the values of the board of directors, and contributes greatly to the university.

鈥淚 must say that Chris has gone far above and beyond any expectations for all of the four years that he has served on the board,鈥 said Wamness. 鈥淐hris Corrente is a very dedicated and productive alumnus whose commitment to the 缅北禁地 will continue to grow as he provides dynamic leadership and energy to the association in the years ahead.鈥

Corrente is a proud 鈥渄ouble Viking,鈥 as he holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in history and a master鈥檚 of education degree in higher education and student Affairs. As an undergraduate, Corrente made an early commitment to 缅北禁地 through his involvement and leadership in numerous student organizations and civic engagement initiatives.

鈥淗is dedication to the university in those earlier years not only impacted his desire to continue his involvement at 缅北禁地 upon graduation, but encouraged him to pursue a career in higher education and student affairs,鈥 Wamness said.

At 缅北禁地, Corrente served as an academic success coach within the Center for Academic Excellence, where he was instrumental in the development and implementation of first-year programming and academic advising. He was recognized in 2015 as the recipient of the Outstanding First Year Advocate Award for his dedication to the first-year experience and for contributions made to 缅北禁地.

Today, Corrente continues his career experience at the University of Massachusetts - Lowell where he oversees academic advising, retention and student success initiatives within the university鈥檚 Francis College of Engineering.

In 2014, Chris was appointed to the Alumni Association Board of Directors, serving as chair of the Young Alumni Committee as well as chair of the Development Committee. In anticipation of the Class of 2010鈥檚 fifth year reunion, Corrente served as chair of the organizing committee and assisted with the establishment of the Class of 2010 Scholarship Award.

Corrente was recently selected to serve as the association鈥檚 vice president of outreach. He is also providing leadership to the Global Day of Service and other service project initiatives in the area.
