Parking Update
Parking on North Campus will look different next week and throughout the fall semester. The lower section of the College Drive lot (near Peabody Hall) is now closed and fencing is being installed this week due to the decarbonization project construction. Faculty and staff can still park in the upper section of this lot. Additionally, over 250 parking spaces are reserved for faculty and staff on the third and fourth floors of the North Campus Parking Garage, which is down the hill (to the left) from the College Drive lot.
Horace Mann Renovation Update
Interior and exterior demolition and abatement continue and is on schedule.
Meier Hall Addition
Traffic pattern changes have been implemented on Lafayette Street and mobilization of the Meier Hall site is complete.
Blasting for the foundation continues with one to two blasts per day between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. A police detail will halt traffic near the site on Lafayette Street at the time of each blast, which will be like the duration of a traffic light. All blasting operations will be conducted during daylight hours, and no explosives will be stored at the construction site overnight. The site will be well marked with highly visible signs that detail the whistle warning sequence that will be sounded prior to the commencement of each blast. The whistle warning sequence is as follows:
- Three long audible horn signals鈥揻ive minutes until blast
- Two short audible horn signals鈥搊ne minute to blast
- Blast occurs
- One long audible horn signal鈥揳ll clear
The contractor has a blasting notification list, where interested parties can receive a phone call, text message or email one hour prior to each blast. If you would like to be placed on the notification list, call their office 508.603.5220. Following blasting, the contractor will begin excavation of the foundation. Foundation work is expected to be ongoing for the next couple of months.
Decarbonization Project Update
We anticipate the mobilization of phase one of the geothermal well drilling to occur by the end of this month with fencing being installed this week.
