Horace Mann Renovation Update
Interior and exterior demolition and abatement continues and is on schedule.
Meier Hall Addition
Blasting for the foundation and is ongoing and is expected to wrap up by the end of next week. Until then, blasting continues with one to two blasts per day between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. A police detail will halt traffic near the site on Lafayette Street at the time of each blast, which will be like the duration of a traffic light. All blasting operations will be conducted during daylight hours, and no explosives will be stored at the construction site overnight. The site will be well marked with highly visible signs that detail the whistle warning sequence that will be sounded prior to the commencement of each blast. The whistle warning sequence is as follows:
- Three long audible horn signals – five minutes until blast
- Two short audible horn signals – one minute to blast
- Blast occurs
- One long audible horn signal – all clear
Following blasting, the contractor will begin excavation of the foundation. Foundation work is expected to be ongoing for the next couple of months.
